Why a far north Queensland landscape designer has created a lush garden with a surprisingly un-tropical colour palette.

Gardening in the tropics isn’t for the faint-hearted. The hot and humid climate
rewards endeavour with abundance and vitality but, without consistent upkeep, things can get away from you pretty fast.

No-one knows this better than John Sullivan. Not only does he labour in and love his own garden, an oasis of green at Pebbly Beach, just south of the far north Queensland holiday town of Port Douglas, he also runs Hortulus, a prominent local garden design and maintenance business.
