Using the power of ‘space’ technology, Orange farmers Peter and Lucy Eccleston finally have reliable internet on their farm near Orange, NSW.

Farmers Peter and Lucy Eccleston have trialled a new Telstra technology, powered by Starlink, with great results.

The Ecclestons run a sheep and cattle farm 5km outside of Orange. Despite being close to the large regional centre, they had ongoing internet connectivity issues.

The couple would often resort to makeshift solutions such as hotspotting from their phones early in the morning, when the internet was faster because everyone else was asleep and there was minimal internet traffic. They’d make trips into town for reliable internet access to participate in online sheep and cattle auctions.

"We'd run a million miles if anyone needed a Teams meeting, being worried if we didn’t have enough data on our phone," they recalled.

After participating in the trial for Telstra’s Satellite Home Internet, the Ecclestons finally found a solution to their internet troubles. This new satellite delivered reliable connectivity, and brought certainty and peace of mind to their business operations.

"We were so data-conscious before – Starlink has changed our day-to-day lives," remarked Peter and Lucy. “We now know we can conduct business transactions online anytime we need to.”

The couple said that the new technology has streamlined their business operations, estimating that it’s given them back 15 days worth of free time a year.

Powered by Starlink, Telstra’s Satellite Home Internet uses Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to provide a new connectivity option for broadband home internet access for Australians who live in areas that are hard to reach with ground-based networks.

Telstra’s data has revealed that NSW residents are in the top 31 percent of early adopters to get on board with the new technology. Australians each week are purchasing the new technology with orders from across regional and remote NSW including Barraba, Lorne, Cobargo, East Jindabyne and Wallagoot.

The Ecclestons say that their adoption of Telstra’s Satellite Home Internet has revolutionised how they structure their day. By leveraging the enhanced internet connectivity, they’ve streamlined various aspects of their daily to do list - from livestock auctions online all the way through to remote meetings with clients and loved ones.

"With the certainty of connection, we have more time for hobbies and our downtime with friends and family" noted the couple. No longer tethered to town for connectivity, they can focus on optimising the most important tasks while also enjoying a better work-life balance.

Starlink will be used within Telstra's mix of existing technologies for internet. Telstra's package also includes a modem and home phone connection, as well as Telstra’s Australian-based support team.
