The Galah Regional Photography Prize is back.

After the success of our 2023 photography prize, we are gearing up for the 2025 Galah Regional Photography Prize and it's already looking brilliant.

There'll be $25,000 for the winner, a $2,000 people's choice award, a mentoring opportunity with photographers and editors from Good Weekend, an eight-week exhibition of 40 finalists in the beautiful town of Armidale, NSW, and a big, wild party to celebrate it all.

And thanks to you generous Galahs, we're creating an 'artist subsidy' fund to help offset the costs of printing and framing for the 40 finalists. I am continually amazed by what a force for good the Galah community is.

If you know a photographer who lives in regional Australia, please do let them know about the prize. All the details and how to enter can be found here.

And if you or a business you're involved with are interested in sponsoring this impact-driven event, please reply to this email. We'll get back to you with lots of ideas.

Another way to get involved is to come to the 2025 Galah Regional Photography Prize party. It's so important for artists to be able to connect with audiences. Whether you're a collector or just want to have a look, we'd love you to come to the party.

Join us in Armidale at the New England Regional Art Museum on 3 May 2025 for a party to celebrate the finalists, announce the winners and gush about the importance of art and artists in our regional communities. There'll be delicious food, wine and great music.

Tickets will go on sale later in the year, but why not get out your diary and pencil in the date now.

To help seal the deal, we're putting together an Armidale travel guide, thanks to our friends at REGGIE who know all the best places to stay, eat and what to do in the Armidale region. Stand by.

In the meantime, sending much love and gratitude to the entire Galah community.

Annabelle

To be eligible, you must live in regional Australia. We are using Regional Australia Institute’s definition – “everything beyond the major capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra.”

Eligible postcodes can be found here.

What are the prizes?

  • Open prize winner receives $25,000, plus a photographic essay published in Galah’s print magazine
  • People’s choice winner receives $2,000
  • Award for Excellence in Photojournalism, presented by Good Weekend magazine, winner receives 4 X 1 hour Zoom mentoring sessions with photographers and editors from Good Weekend‍

All finalists will be exhibited at NERAM for eight weeks from April 2025. Each finalist will receive an 'artist subsidy' which we are fundraising for now. So far we've raised $12,000 which translates to a $300 subsidy for each artist to help offset printing and framing costs.

The winners will be announced at a party at NERAM on Saturday 3 May, 2025. All works in the exhibition will be for sale, and artists will receive 70 per cent commission of the sale price.

The Galah Regional Photography Prize is supported by our generous patrons including the Burton Taylor Foundation, and facilitated by Creative Partnerships Australia through the Australian Cultural Fund. Our charity partner is Country Education Foundation – the work they do for school leavers in regional Australia is outstanding. And our media partners are the brilliant Good Weekend magazine and local New England media platform REGGIE from the team at FOUND Regional.
