THERE weren’t bats in the belfry when Jane and Geordie Charles moved into Ceres Homestead, but there was a beehive in the dining room. It’s impossible to imagine now, circumnavigating the limestone showpiece that reveals spectacular angles around every bend, but – let’s put this delicately – the 160-year-old grande dame needed a little work. And Jane and Geordie were the right people to do it, despite the fact they had a two-month-old baby, two other lively youngsters and no furniture.
