Are you Galah's new weekly newsletter editor?

We're looking for a new editor for our Galah Weekly newsletter. If delivering regional news headlines excites you, learn how to apply here.

The Galah Weekly is an award-nominated email newsletter which is sent to more than 15,000 subscribers each Sunday. It includes a round-up of regional headlines and events, plus other delightful things from life beyond the city. The Weekly Editor prepares and publishes this newsletter each week with the support of the Galah team.

Our perfect match

Working as the Weekly Editor, you will become incredibly well-informed on the news, events and topics that matter most to regional Australians.

You’ll love this role if news content, particularly regional news content, heavily features in your inbox, podcasts and social media feed — or if the idea of keeping up with regional news excites you. The ability to deliver news headlines with a sense of humour is warmly welcomed.

You’ll also be our perfect match if you:

Have excellent written communication skills.

Can work quickly and write concisely. Each week, you’ll digest a large volume of content and distil it down to the most important points for Galah readers.

Are a gun at time management. While you’ll have the support of the Galah team, you should be able to manage your work and time independently and be able to consistently hit content deadlines each week.

Can confidently navigate digital tools and platforms. The Weekly is published on Ghost, an intuitive CMS and digital publishing platform. You’ll also assist with creating graphics using Canva and publishing these to social media using the Meta Business Suite. You don’t need prior experience with these platforms and tools but you should be keen to learn.

What you’ll do

Prepare and publish the Galah Weekly newsletter to send to subscribers on Sunday morning, including:

  • Monitoring major news outlets, regional art galleries, and other content sources.
  • Curating a weekly round-up of regional news and events, including images.
  • Presenting an outline draft of the newsletter for input at the weekly editorial meeting.
  • Working closely with an independent contributor to manage requests for In the Flock interviews, prepare interview questions and edit for inclusion in the Weeky newsletter.
  • Writing the newsletter and working with Galah editors to finalise for publication.
  • Publishing the newsletter on Galah’s digital platform, Ghost.

Prepare and publish Galah Weekly social media content, including:

  • Creating social media graphics using Canva.
  • Publishing graphics and captions using Meta Business Suite .

Manage the inbox and respond promptly to incoming mail.

How to apply

Email Lyndsie at Galah Press with your CV, an explanation of why you love regional news, and a writing example of a summarised news headline you'd include in the newsletter.

This role is available as a freelance position, based on a fee per newsletter commensurate with experience.
